Originally manufactured in 1944, we are pleased to present this beautiful restoration of an original Willys Jeep. Renowned as inspiration for further four-wheel-drive transport with both family and utility in mind, this vehicle in particular was first registered in 2018 and recently underwent a full restoration. Now finished in a dark grey, the side valved Jeep is retro-fitted with a 2. 2L petrol engine and is in incredible working order. The gearbox is a 3-speed with the option of 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive and can be utilised with or without the khaki roll-over. This therefore provides a fantastic opportunity to own a rare piece of history.
In June 1940 William Beasley, Chief Engineer of the US Ordnance Dept. produced a sketch of what would undoubtedly become the Jeep - a design that was a proposed solution to the US army requirement for a mechanised gun and personnel carrier that could also cope with differing terrains.
After pitching for the development, Willys Overland was eventually picked to develop the idea into mass production. The first Willys Jeep appeared in 1941 and from that moment it became the vehicle of choice of the US army for the duration of WWII.
Currently on show here at the Old Cinema, it can be prepared ready for the road or delivered on covered transport.
