Immaculate. A testament to its former owner!
Up for sale here is my beloved little Clio. The car is an absolute gem of a find and in an unbelievable tidy condition all round. Mechanically the car is perfect. There are no knocks, squeaks or rattles throughout. It starts first time every time, in all winds and weather and has been a fab retro runabout throughout my 8 months of ownership.
History and Details:
I bought the car in September ’20 after receiving a call from Mr & Mrs Cook, a local elderly couple, who were following up the note I left on their windscreen 4 years earlier back when I was in college! I bought it immediately. The car was first owned by their son who purchased from new in April 1997. Mr Cook then purchased the car from his son in 2000 and kept it for a remarkable 20 years. Driven only locally by his wife and garaged when not in use, the car has covered 57, 000 miles; an average of only 2, 400 per year. Mr Cook also had the car serviced every year without fail, and, accordingly, a stack of paperwork accompanies the car!
The physical condition of this little Clio is a real testament to its former owner. The ‘Rouge’ red paint is still very deep and holds a strong shine. The interior is, as to be expected, also perfect. The seats have no tears or stains, the plastics are not brittle or aged from any exposure to sun, and the original Renault branded carpets are still ‘like new’, as Mr Cook kept these protected with aftermarket mats throughout his (and my) ownership. The wheel trims have a couple of odd small marks but are only visible upon close inspection. The original mudflaps are also fitted on all four corners.
With regards to rust and corrosion, the only bit of brown on the entire body of the car is a small patch at the bottom of the NS rear wheel arch drainage channel. However, the sills, arches, boot floor and other extremities are all flawless.
Only as this is a particularly mint condition car, it is worth noting the other tiny imperfections which are a small shopping trolley ding on the OS rear, and some small stone chips on the bonnet. However, these are incredibly insignificant on general inspection and do not detract from the car’s overall image.
In my ownership I have changed the rear exhaust silencer after realising it was as old as the car and becoming a little loud, but that is the only bit that’s needed doing! Throughout winter I paid particular attention to cleaning the underside of the car and drainage channels to help it fight those salted roads.

The car is currently located in Plymouth, Devon, but will be returning to Bordon, Hampshire in late June.
I am only selling the car as I will be returning from university very soon, where it has played the role of being my supermarket runabout and shuttle back and forth between uni and my family home. I also have a Peugeot 205 that (sadly for the Clio), takes first priority in my garage and i do not have the space for 2 old French cars!
This really is a genuinely fantastic car to be loved and appreciated for what it is, and really deserves a loving home. Just imagine the summer cruises with the windows rolled down, sunroof open, and some 90s tunes on the stereo.
I’ll also definitely miss the abundance of comments and compliments it gets at petrol stations!
