Volvo 1800 ES Sports Estate 1972 - Multiple Award Winner
Gleaming opalescent maroon over gold with cinnamon hide interior. Manual gearbox with overdrive. This outstanding 1800ES was purchased in 2013 from the estate of the late Mrs Barbara Morris who had probably the best collection of P1800 Volvos in the UK. The car was garage stored from 1983 prior to the commencement of restoration in 1996. Photos of the restoration, including the engine rebuild, are available with the car. Completed in 1999, ‘UNF88K’ enjoyed much success at Volvo Owners Club concourse events and was used by Midsummer Books for their guide to the 1800ES. At the model’s 50th anniversary rally, organised by the Viking Classic Club, held in the Loire Valley, France, in 2010, the car was judged ‘Best 1800’ out of 300 cars.
Since purchasing the car, we have shown it at shows around Edinburgh and the South of Scotland where it has enjoyed renewed success. UNF88K was judged ‘Best in Class’ and 'Best in Show' at the ‘Wheels of Yesteryear’ show organised by the Scottish Association of Vehicle Enthusiasts in 2016, and again ‘Best in Class’ the following year. In 2018, the car won the Ginestri Trophy for ‘Best in Class’ at Scotland’s largest and most prestigious Classic Car Show at Thirlestane Castle. Although we retired the car from shows that year, UNF88K was again a winner in the Volvo Enthusiasts Club ‘Stay at Home - Members Best Volvo Competition’ for 2020. UNF88K featured on the front cover of the Spring 2016 Volvo Enthusiasts Club magazine sitting under the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge alongside the original ‘Saint’ car. Trophies from some of the events will be presented with the car.
UNF88K was originally green and restored to maroon over gold by the previous owner who was a Masterclass judge for the Volvo Owners Club. The paintwork presents superbly and the interior remains totally original and is a delight. The car had covered 99, 000 miles in total at the completion of restoration and just 21, 000 miles since then. The seller is the Scottish representative of the Volvo Enthusiasts Club. The 1800ESs are now extremely rare and a beautiful classic to own and enjoy.
