The choice of conveyance for both Royalty and Government long after the manufacturer made them obsolete, the P5B’s were highly thought of for their understated ‘old school’ quality. The four-door ‘Coupe’ with its lower roof line is the most sought after version, and we are pleased to be selling a lovely example for a long standing client. A surprisingly lively performer, the car’s overall presentation is fantastic with straight, well-gapped panels and a high quality repaint carried out more than a decade ago in its original Bordeaux Red which has lost none of its lustre due to the vehicle been kept in a dry warehouse for much of the time. The Silver Birch roof panel with authentically hand painted coachlines is still perfect. Chrome work is excellent including the Rostyle wheels and an unbuckled back bumper- both aspects which often disappoint even with the priciest P5’s on sale. The original leather is only lightly patinated suggesting the recorded miles may be correct and the extensive history file further supports this with a signed declaration by the (then) owner in 1977 warranting the mileage of 28, 500 as genuine. There is a log of maintenance from 1972 to 1989 charting the mileage to around 60, 000 miles, with supporting evidence of it increasing more slowly to its present recorded 66, 000. MOT certificates date back to the mid- 70’s. The veneers were professionally repolished and new over carpets sourced around 15 years ago. The boot area is unabused and the engine bay likewise. In 2016 this Rover was loaned to Haymarket Publishing featuring in an article and on the front cover of Classic and Sportscar magazine which adds some interest to its provenance. A Rover with huge potential.
