EXTERIOR
Electrifying from almost every angle, the wide stance, sharp lines and scissor doors of the Murciélago introduced a whole new generation to the madness of Lamborghini, instantly becoming the definitive poster car of the early 2000s.
Freshly returned from a full respray in its original colour of Grigio Antares Titanium Metallic, this first generation Murciélago looks utterly sensational, with the deep shine of the metallic finish flowing over the cars chiseled form to create a menacing demeanour for this mid-engined monster. Gloss black details define some of the cars key details, with the vast engine cover and lower side intakes standing out clearly from the lighter metallic base shade.
Tastefully upgraded this example features the later LP-640 styling, replacing the front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts with those borrowed from their later counterpart.
INTERIOR
Markedly different to the subdued colour scheme of the exterior the cabin of this Murciélago exudes a level of luxury and flare synonymous with the Lamborghini name. Rosso Centaurus Leather adorns much of the interior, with quilted diamond stitching across the door cards, rear fire wall and seat centres, which is perfectly framed by Black Nero Perseus leather across upper dash and outer edges of the deeply bolstered sports seats.
Being a first generation car the interior space feels extremely simple and uncluttered, especially by modern standards, with a simple Sony CD/ FM radio and a basic A/ C system concealed behind a fold away branded panel. Central to the space sits the rounded steel gear stick which protrudes from its open gate to give this Murciélago a distinctly focused, analogue feel.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Turn the key and the Murciélago’s 6. 2l V12 immediately barks into life before settling into a purposeful idle. It may have been manufactured under Audi’s supervision but there is nothing sensible about the figures that accompany the glorious sound. With 572bhp being transferred through all 4 wheels the grip is sensational as it launches you to 60 mph in just 3. 2 seconds and onward to over 200 mph.
Those figures seem less impressive in today’s world of hybrid Hypercars but the savage roar and relentless torque of the naturally aspirated V12 give the Murciélago a real sense of character, enhanced further by the gated 6-speed manual gearbox which provides an extra level of engagement through its bolt action style changes.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 18? gloss black alloys and red callipers complete the colour way of the Murciélago and sit in good condition, with no signs of curbing to note. Matching Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres still have plenty of tread and ensure the All-wheel drive system can be used with maximum effect.
HISTORY FILE
First supplied in 2003 in the Middle East this first generation Murciélago was first registered in the UK in 2019. Print out of service invoices from Lamborghini show thousands of pounds worth of parts and maintenance during the cars time in the middle east, also helping to track the mileage and use of the car throughout its life.
Significant work in the UK includes a new clutch and flywheel and a major service in 2019. It has since just finished a body strip down, renovation including a full respray in its factory colour, costing over £20k.
Fully UK registered this Murciélago sits as a useable example as one of the last great analogue supercars.
