The Alpina B10 4. 6 V8 (1998) Switchtronic E39 you are looking at here was designed and built for the customer for whom an M5 was a bit too common, a bit too mainstream; Alpina customers have always preferred to plough their own furrow, and the sort of person that would have chosen one of these over the (admittedly very, very good) production M5.
The changes wrought were extensive: the V8 M62 engine was bored and stroked out to 4. 6-litres; the valve seats were changed and the cylinder head flowed; the camshafts were given a sportier profile; the crankshaft was balanced and lightweight Mahle aluminium pistons were fitted. The maximum revs rose to 6, 700rpm – and power soared to 340bhp and 346lb/ ft.
With just five former keepers, an astonishing service history, this wonderfully discreet Alpina B10 drives even better than it looks – and it looks even better in the flesh than it does in the photos!
Since 2019, it has been part of a private collection. The car is original, sleek and neat with very minor signs of wear.
This car is technically in very good condition and was maintained by a dealer/ specialist.

Recently had a full service including new spark plugs.
Mechanically car drives lovely, no knocking sounds no suspension or bushes issue, no rust, not overheating or any engine leaks. Switchtronic gearbox is perfect and no issues.
After three wonderfully nostalgic years with it (during which time it has always been garaged, just as it was in the previous owner’s hands) I now feel that it’s time to let someone else discover its understated charms.
