In BMW tradition, the 02 series was introduced in 1966 as a sporting 2-door version of its New Class sedans. The shorter wheelbase permitted for agility and performance driven by its M10 in line 4-cylinder 1. 6lt engine. Soon after BMW executives felt the 85 bhp power output was not fully exploiting the potential of the chassis and proceeded with numerous revisions that included dual carburation (1600Ti/ 105 bhp), capacity enlargement (2002/ 105 bhp, 2002Ti/ 120 bhp), injection fuel delivery (2002Tii/ 130bhp) and turbocharging (2002 Turbo/ 170 bhp). In motorsports the 02 series became a Nurburgring 24hr and Trans Am Series winner while on public roads it became infamous as a police out-runner.
The 02 offered was sourced in 2011 as a road legal 1602 and became the basis of a series of competition modifications to render a formidable hillclimb performer. Its chassis was strengthen while its weight reduced down to 910 kg via plexiglass lids, widebody polyester kit and polycarbonate glass. An M10 2lt engine was prepared by Greece’s competition experts Tsagaras Motorsports to naturally aspirated 200 bhp performance via a 5sp ZF gearbox and a ZF LSD. The vehicle was certified in 2012 and tested in 2013 to remain an exceptional hillclimb championship performer for the years that followed. It is now offered fully serviced and prepared for any hillclimb or track event.
