This vehicle was ordered new in late 1987 with delivery to its first and only owner on 1 January 1988. It was ordered by the director of an automobile spares business for his wife.
Exterior
The Alpine White paintwork is the factory original paint which is in good condition with no signs of corrosion. There are a few minor blemishes which have been touched up including a mark on the B pillar where the seatbelt appears to have been closed in the door, a couple of marks on the leading edge of the bonnet and a small area under the passenger’s door handle.
Interior
The interior is in excellent condition with the seats and headlining having been retrimmed at some point. The car still bears it original VW rubber mats and underneath, the carpets are in excellent condition. There are no cracks in the dashboard and the rear parcel shelf is in perfect original condition.
Mechanicals
The 1. 8 engine starts easily and soon settles into a steady idle. As the car has been little used during the last 15 years, I commissioned the following work:
• New tyres
• Freshly painted steel wheels
• New windscreen
• New spark plugs and HT leads
• New fuel pump
• Coolant flush
• New battery
• New wipers
• An oil leak identified during its most recent MOT was traced to a leaky hose in the power steering system and this has now been fixed.
• MOT valid until August 2022
The car has a period aftermarket alarm and immobiliser which work perfectly.
As the car was owned by the wife of a gentlemen in the trade, all routine servicing was conducted in his workshop and as a result, there is no service history with the vehicle. The previous owner has included a letter in the car’s file confirming this.
