This cute little “Ape” is as much fun as you can legally have with your clothes on, a smile every mile, cheap as chips to run, fully UK road legal, free road tax and MOT exempt, totally original and unrestored and you can even earn a wage with its unique, optional, foldable advertising platform, earn, play, promote, shows, rallies, road runs the options are endless.
THE VEHICLE
1977 model, historic road tax (free) and MOT exempt, 190cc engine with 4 speed manual gears and reverse, starts and runs very well, has a good top end road speed, will keep up with modern traffic and it’s not underpowered, it will carry 500kg, a proper Italian mini work horse. The “MP” model denotes “Motore Posteriore” a larger rear mounted engine fitted over the rear axle instead of under the seat in the cab, makes for a quieter ride and much easier to access for servicing.
Came to us direct from the UK’s most prominent Ape importers “Morgan’s Customs & Classics”, sold in January to a customer who has not used it at all due to health issues and now back with us, it’s been cleaned up and remains very original and unrestored, a completely genuine example, the often rotten foot wells are nice and solid (see pics).
Works as it should, the side lights, headlight, horn, indicators, wiper, dash warning lights work correctly. The foot brakes are good and lock up if pushed hard, the handbrake is very good (see video). A new battery was fitted in January, both doors open and click shut, even the windows open and close with working original catches.
We have the current full UK log book and a we found a full 156 page service manual in English, its included with the sale in a PDF format so you’ll have it hand for any servicing or repairs. Parts are readily available on the net, admittedly mostly from Italy rather than off the shelf, but you can get everything you need posted to your door.
It’s very much as it arrived from Italy and we’d recommend a check over and service prior to use, some tinkering may be required, we haven’t inspected it, sold as a collector’s item in running order.
In summary, it’s incredibly good fun to drive, everyone points and waves as you pass by, will be a real talking point at shows and rallies, original and unrestored, its cheap to own and run and has the potential to earn a few quid, you can’t buy much for under four grand these days that ticks all those boxes.
ADVERTISING OPTION
We have given this fun classic motor an earning potential by creating a removable platform so you can use the Ape as an advertising vehicle, charging others to drive around towns and cities advertising local promotions or your own business, park it in a prominent place on junction or retail estates, it’s a very cheap form of advertising, it runs all day on a teacup of petrol.
The simple posters we are displaying cost just over a tenner each, so a full-size placard would be easily affordable and cost less than a, one issue, quarter page ad in the local rag, plus you can be sure people WILL look at this eye catcher.
When not required the bords fold flat and can be stored inside the load bed or stood up against a wall. Nothing has been adapted or drilled on the Ape, this option is available for an additional £295 (pics shown are library pics from another Ape)
