For sale is my 1989 BMW E34 535i with a manual gear box. I have owned this car since August 2017 and it has been an absolute pleasure to own. It has been my go to car for sunny days and trips away. It will be missed.
It has covered 127k miles. MoT certificate is valid until February 2023 with no disconcerning advisoraries - the only one is due to having covers over the suspension dampers and springs to keep them looking fresh and clean as they were replaced back in 2019.
I am the fourth registered keeper but from what I have been told the first two owners were the same person, it was a company car from new then it was owned by the same person. My friend then bought it from the first owner in 2015 and then I bought it off him in 2017. It has been well looked after all its life. The original owner was very meticulous with the documentation and then my friend is another BMW enthusiast and kept good care of it. He only sold it to me as he wanted it to go to a good home where it would be looked after, which I certainly have done.
During my ownership it has undergone a light restoration to bring it back to exceptional condition. I was working with the philosophy of renew everything and if it comes off brand new goes back on, even down to the nuts and bolts. Most of the parts I have changed were for genuine BMW items.
Summary of the work done in my ownership:
* Sent to a BMW specialist to change the rear discs, pads, rear splash guards, rear wheel bearings and gearbox and rear diff oil. While they were working on it they also replaced the rear brake lines and some bushes.
* Genuine BMW Style 32 wheels, 17” and staggered. Have been refurbished and new tyres went on. Have fitted a stud kit, makes changing wheels a lot easier
* Custom made stainless steel exhaust which comes with a lifetime warranty
* Front end respray - bonnet, new front wings, all four jacking points cut out and re-welded and sills repainted
* All new suspension was fitted. Sourced some new front struts, painted them and fitted all new wheel bearings, top mounts, fixings, ABS sensors to go with the brand new Bilstein B12 sport kit with Eibach springs. All new nuts and bolts were also fitted
* Coolant system replaced - thermostat, temperature sensors, water pump, radiator, viscous fan and all new fixings etc
* New prop shaft doughnut washers and engine mounts fitted
* Replaced the oil spray bar banjo bolts when the rocker cover was removed and painted black to tidy the engine bay up
* Powerflex front and rear anti roll bar bushes
* Brand new genuine BMW E31 four pot Brembo brake callipers were fitted along with new pads and Mtec C hook brake discs. At the same time fit braided brake lines along with RBF 600 brake fluid
* Has been machine polished and has some ceramic sealant on it currently
* Changed the gear shifter for a genuine BMW Z3 one for a more direct shorter throw
* New spark plugs
Other notable things to mention:
* Has had regular oil changes with the most recent 01/ 12/ 21 when I fitted a new genuine BMW oil pressure sensor and used some engine flush too. Will also give the seller the tool to reset the service light
* Mtech 1 steering wheel from new which is in great condition
* Genuine original floor mats are in excellent condition. Currently use an after market set to avoid the originals getting damaged and worn
* BMW Blaupunkt cassette player was sourced and fitted. I want to say this model was fitted to E34's but cannot be certain, but it is period correct
* Has the grey leather interior which is in excellent condition - have recently cleaned and treated the seats.
* I believe the tool kit is all present and correct with all original items (I can’t see if there is anything missing but will stand corrected if this is incorrect)
* I will include the Brodit phone holder (but not the phone specific cradle) as this is really useful. The buyer will need to source their own phone specific attachment to screw/ fix to the holder. This holder is specific for the E34 and fits perfectly without damaging any trim
Being honest now there are a few minor things that could be addressed. There are some marks on the paintwork but this does not detract from the overall appearance to the car. The headlight tints can easily be removed. Have also removed the sun strip that is present in the photos (need to take some new photos to show this, but waiting for good weather to take it out)
Overall this is an excellent car that has had a lot of love over the years to keep it in amazing condition. I have taken it to shows where it gets a lot of attention. It makes a great noise, especially with the custom exhaust. It drives perfectly as well with no noises from the suspension, engine or gear box. Very comfortable to be in but also handles well with the suspension and brake upgrades. I would happily take it on a long road trip tomorrow.
