For sale: VW Mk1 Scirocco 1978 OEM+ fully restored. Tax and MOT exempt with correct historic tax status and around 77k miles.
Very rare collectors item with there only being 18 left registered on the road which makes it a great investment opportunity. My plan was to build and never sell this but I’ve recently got into rallying Mk1 golfs so rarely get the opportunity to enjoy this or take it to shows anymore.
It has already won awards but as it only attended a couple shows before lockdown, the new owner can enter it into shows fresh on the scene.
Huge folder of receipts using genuine parts only where possible plus a collection of original sales material that I built up to display.
The spec is as follows:
Body:
- Bare metal respray in original platinum silver met. Sealed and protected in top Auto Finesse products. Looks more like a grey, only 2 left on the road in this colour. Never been out in the rain and stored under a fitted cover inside a garage but I do drive it to shows unlike most. Never been wet sanded so concours potential with little effort.
- Chrome ‘swallowtail’ mirrors.
- Stainless GLS trim.
- New badges and original bronze glass.
- Chrome/ stainless wipers and arms.
- T6061 alloy bumpers.
- Undersealed and waxoiled.
- Chrome handles and stainless inserts with two sets of keys.
- Legal pressed alloy plates.
- New fuel tank.
- Pirelli edition covered fuel cap.
- Correct early bronze glass.
Chassis/ Running gear:
- KW V3+ stainless coilovers.
- Noath Engineering bump steer correction track rod ends with adjustable tie rods both sides.
- Wheels are standard GLS alloys with new tyres but 14” mini G60 banded steels or exceptionally rare 14” ceramic polished BBS RS242’s are open to negotiation. Both custom built to fit arches perfectly and shod in new Yokohama A539 tyres.
- NOS G40/ 16v OEM vented front brakes.
- Stainless brake lines.
- Polybushed.
- New top mounts.
- Coated wishbones and beam.
- New CV’s and wheel bearings.
- Original gearbox fully rebuilt with new syncro’s where necessary and new bearings/ seals.
- Geomtry set up by Midland VW. Handles like it is on rails but is comfortable to drive long distances. I will quite happily drive 200 miles.
Interior:
- Original GLS high back seats and black interior.
- Wolfsburg steering wheel. Black leather with grey stitching by Chris at Trimshop. Perfect craftsmanship.
- New black carpet
- Headlining and pillars replaced in black by Chris at Trimshop. Incredible work.
- New parcel shelf and dreadnaught customs brass hinges.
- Original VW blade style seat belts.
- Original GLS dash with no cracks and clear, undamaged conical dials plus centre console.
- CD/ Bluetooth head unit with removable faceplate to disguise it.
Engine:
- Original 1588cc FR block bored +1mm with new pistons. Rotating assembly lightened and balanced.
- Head ported and polished with a Kent high lift cam installed.
- Weber 28/ 36 single down draught carb.
- K&N air filter.
- Electronic ignition.
- New Bosch dizzy cap and arm with high performance HT leads.
- Electric Facet fuel pump.
- Newly cored radiator.
- Stainless 4-1 manifold and heat wrapped.
- Miltek full stainless exhaust.
- Magnetic sump.
- Alloy catch tank.
- New Bosch S5 battery.
- Dyno setup around 125bhp.
Will come on standard GLS alloys, but happy to negotiate on the other wheels plus any rare parts I have hoarded. Delivery is no problem also on my own trailer. Has been valued at 25k so I’d like it to go to someone who will cherish it as an enthusiast and not to a dealer who will just sell it in on for a profit.
