EXTERIOR
This desirable 1. 8T 25th Anniversary GTI looks great in timeless Reflex Silver (one of only three colours available to this limited edition Mk4). The paintwork is first-rate throughout and presents with a deep, lusftul shine across every panel. At the front end the body is almost entirely unblemished by any stone chips, the headlights are equipped with protective Lexan covers, and along both sides the car is arrow-straight. There are no signs of any corrosion whatsoever, and the underside is also notably fresh. All in all, an outstanding and highly original example, cherished from new it’s hard to believe this one’s actually driven 70k miles.
INTERIOR
The Recaro sports seats present immaculately in their original black Le Mans cloth with special red detailing. The whole interior remains feeling really fresh throughout and, as with the exterior, is much more in line with a car having done half the mileage. In fact, the upholstery front and rear presents with almost no signs of any wear, the deep bolsters remaining in particularly sound condition. Other commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gear knob show few signs of use, and in the footwells you’ll still find the original VW overmats all round (a spare set is also included). The special edition plaque in the driver’s door shut shows this example to be number 73 of 1, 800 uniquely numbered examples.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The stock 1. 8-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 178hp but, following a Stage 1 remap, this particular example now develops in excess of 200hp (a dyno readout is included in the paperwork). Lifting the bonnet reveals a very clean and original-looking engine bay with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair. The car is accompanied by the most amazing maintenance record having been religiously serviced since new, a real testament to each of its four owners. The last service was only recently carried out in October 2021 at 70, 317 miles.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The 18-inch BBS alloys really set the 25th Anniversary off beautifully, looking fantastic in their original style finish with the correct VW centre badges; all four remain in perfect unmarked condition having previously been fully refurbished to a very high standard. They are shod in matching Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with 6mm of tread remaining at the front and 5mm left at the rear. The brakes are also in fine working condition with only minimal wear.
HISTORY FILE
1 of only 825 UK-supplied 25th Anniversary Editions with the 1. 8T engine, this cracking example was first registered in July 2002. It has now driven just 70k miles from new in the hands of only 4 careful owners, the current since May 2021. Within the History File you’ll find the original VW document binder with all the original booklets inside, two fully stamped service books, a thick stack of invoices, original sales brochures and press documents, almost every MOT certificate from new, and a spare remote key. An appropriate ‘VW Anniversary’ cherished plate is included with the sale. The service history is as follows:
