- We are please to offer Cars' latest showroom addition is our mostly original 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle. Indian is a U. S. brand of Motorcycles headquartered in Massachusetts from 1901-1953. The Scout and the Chief models were Indian's two biggest sellers.
- After bankruptcy in 1953, decades went by before Polaris Industries purchased Indian Motorcycles in 2011. In 1940, all Indian Chief models were fitted with large skirted fenders which eventually became the Indian trademark. The new frame was superior to rival Harley-Davidson's unsprung rear end. All '40s Chiefs were comfortable and capable of more than 100 mph rides when tuned.
We have acquired an inter-war era Indian Chief bike.
- This 1947 motorcycle has been left largely original with newer paint.
- The previous owner kept the Chief in a climate-controlled basement.
- The motor and frame are matching numbers, making this cycle very rare and highly original.
- The bike comes with an extra 2 light highway bar that are period correct for this model (mot attached) and various other spares, also included with purchase is a copy of the Indian Motorcycle restoration guide, along with the period correct floor boards.
- The M/ C features a 3-speed manual gearbox with full skirted drive chain cover and a original round air cleaner.
- As the motor and body numbers are matching, making this motorcycle even more valuable and rare!
- The bike has been in cold storage and kicks through with compression, but has not been started by us.
