1949 Excelsior Autobkye (Autocycle) DeLuxe. Original Registration Number: LYA 495. Frame Number:SA9602. Engine Number: S9. The V5C has a note stating that the vehicle was not new when registered so could well be pre-war, originally registered in Somerset, so it's seems top have stayed all it's life in the Westcountry.
Excelsior launched their auto-cycle in 1937 and they were fitted with the Villers Junior Motor. Production was halted during World War 2 when the factory began to manufacture the Welbike for the War Department. When manufacture resumed postwar the Auto-cycle was fitted with their own 2 stroke engine until production ended in 1957. KYA 495, has an engine number of S9, which might indicate that this is the "Super-Autobyk'. KYA 495 is fitted with it's original engine covers, original tank with some of it's original markings, luggage carrier, detachable rear mudguard, rear and front number plates, Millar headlamp, horn, Wipac rear light, Red rear reflector, period bicycle pump. The flywheel magneto is manufactured by Wipac - WICO-PACY SALES CORP Ltd which might help date the Autocycle.

Note in March 1946 this machine would have been sold for £35 15s plus £9 13s 1d purchase tax but because of a difficulty in obtain raw materials in the immediate post-war period, this price could not be held and was increased to £39 10s plus £10 13s 4d purchase tax.
KYA495 was purchased by my father in 1983 and was displayed / exhibited / and used at many shows until he passed away. It has been kept in dry storage since then, the engine still turns freely and I have recently fitted new inner tubes.
The Autocycle is currently classed as 'Not Licensed' but with it'd new owner can be classified as an 'Historic Vehicle' then having the benefit of free road tax and the benefit of being MOT exempt. Included with the sale is the copy of it's last MOT certificate together with the latest (pink) DVLA V5C registration document.
The Autocycle comes with it's under seat small tool box together with a collection of period tools. The original seat is fitted to the Autocycle however there is a modern more comfortable seat available.
All paperwork will be included with the sale including earlier Registration documents, MOT certificate, Engine and Maintenance Log book.
