Beschreibung

An ingenious concept, HFS Morgan’s first Three-Wheeler was unveiled in 1909. Based around a tubular steel chassis frame, the design’s low centre of gravity and advanced ‘sliding pillar’ independent front suspension endowed it with superlative roadholding. Progressively developed, the single rear-wheel-driven platform ultimately played host to a variety of JAP, Matchless, Blackburne, Anzani and Ford powerplants. Fearsome competition cars, Morgan Three-Wheelers driven by the likes of HFS himself, Clive Lones and Harold Beart acquitted themselves well on race circuits and trial stages alike – eg Mrs Gwenda Stewart recorded 115. 66mph during a record run at Montlhéry in 1930. First advertised in 1920 (but available a couple of seasons earlier), the ‘Aero’ soon became a favourite among sporting motorists. With its stark yet sleek bodywork, impressive power to weight ratio and nimble handling, it was capable of embarrassing far more expensive machinery. Initially propelled by a 980cc JAP V-twin side-valve engine allied to two-speed manual transmission, the model continued to evolve until production ceased in 1933.

Originally Manufactured by Morgan as a ‘Family’ model in 1930, this car was purchased by the previous owner’s father in 1980 as a complete but dismantled project. Totally restored with its current sporting two-seater Aero bodywork, the car was used regularly in the years following with the owner, an enthusiastic member of the Morgan Three Wheeler Club.

Regarded by many Morgan aficionados as being an unusually original and correct example, ‘We 9450’ is finished in red / cream and complemented by a red interior. This delightful three-wheeler retains its original chassis frame stamping, numbered dashboard plaque and period UK folding ‘buff’ log book. The car is offered in very good all-round condition and equipped with a powerful KTW series water-cooled JAP twin engine and two-speed gearbox. Such unmolested pre-war Morgans rarely come to market and this example would make an ideal candidate for VSCC and Morgan owners club events.
