Known history

The BMW 5 series' predecessors, the 1800 range saloons, were produced from the early 1960s to the mid 1970s. Due to the success of this car, the brand developed different versions of the saloon. This is how the 1600, 1800 and 2000 came into being. On this basis, there were even coupe versions, including the iconic 2002 and its sporty Tii version. The BMW 1800 was produced from 1963 to 1971. Its 4-cylinder carburettor engine was increased to a displacement of 1, 773cc, developing 90hp, and was coupled as standard to a 4-speed manual gearbox or an optional automatic. Well finished, with thick carpeting, vinyl door panels and decorative inserts all over the dashboard, the 1800 was certainly a top of the range vehicle. This well-motorized car is a credit to its coat of arms and a perfect fit with the Bavarian firm's tradition.

The example we offer was put on the road on 13 May 1966 in the Paris region. When it died in 2003, its first owner, who had taken great care of it, bequeathed the car to his neighbour who had always been in admiration of this car since his childhood. A professional bodyworker, he repainted the car in its original cream colour. Lacking space, he in turn sold the car to its current owner in 2012. This model was dear to his heart and he wanted to reconnect with the memories of his youth. Very meticulous, he has maintained the car very well, a major overhaul was in fact carried out at the end of 2018 at Techni Tacot establishments for an amount of over €12, 000. The engine was removed for an external overhaul, the braking system was completely overhauled, the clutch was replaced, the heating system was repaired and the car was switched to 12V. Today this car is running perfectly and we had a lot of fun driving it. From an aesthetical point of view, the interior is very well preserved, only a few traces of corrosion can be noticed on the bodywork. With its 64, 500 km which are certainly original, its known history and its irreproachable mechanics, our interesting Bavarian sedan does not lack arguments to convince you.
