Description
The VW SP was a sports coupe produced from 1972 to 1976 by the Brazilian Volkswagen plant mainly for the local market; the car's name stood for Sport Prototype. In the 1970s, the Brazilian automotive market was virtually closed to imports - due to extremely high import duties on motor vehicles. The only sporty cars that still existed were already obsolete, such as the VW Karmann-Ghia and its successor, the less successful Karmann Ghia TC. However, some independent Brazilian manufacturers occupied this niche with some success, such as Puma. The SP had two trunks; a 140-liter one under the front hood and a 205-liter compartment in the rear, accessible via a large hatch. Despite many good features, the SP found too few buyers. As a result, SP production was ended in February 1976. A total of 10, 193 examples were produced, of which about 670 were exported (officially not to Europe), so the offered car is very rare and fully restored.
A similar white example from 1973 can be seen in the Automuseum Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.
The offered vehicle was demonstrably used in commercials in Brazil. In addition, the vehicle has been completely restored by a renowned restorer former Ansgestellte of the VW plant in Brazil.
The vehicle is delivered with German papers. Oldtimer certificate, as well as European operating license so-called EBE and all associated papers are available.
