The Very last Quasar.
A little history: The Quasar was years ahead of its time and is still a credit to its designers, Ken Leaman and Malcolm Newell. Its futuristic lines still turns heads and draws crowds whenever it is parked.
The Quasar has been around since the seventies but despite this, its handling,
comfort, economy, and its ability to consume great distances at high speeds have yet to be matched by the most modern of superbikes. With the Bob Tait Hub Centre Steered front end the handling is fantastic for a big and heavy machine.
This Quasar is the very last and Malcolm Newell sadly passed away in 1994 before he had finished it. Powered by a Suzuki GS850 shaft drive, it lay unloved for many years until it was bought by myself last year. It was a rolling chassis (it had to be fully disassembled) with all the body in primer and a deal was done.
The story gets interesting now as my Father was one of the country’s leading commercial photographers and did the Quasar brochure with the first Quasar at the very same house where I live today and this is where have the last one. Its a crazy full circle event!
Finished in Ferrari Rosso Corsa red, I completed the Quasar in February this year and it was a very sympathetic build but there was the always the temptation to change, modify and improve things with modern techniques and materials but I decided to build it as Malcolm intended. Every time I see it in the garage, I am in total awe of it. It was too ahead of its time when launched and I still think it is!.
I rode the rolling chassis and it it rides fantastically, the stability and the way it tips in with light counter steering is amazing. Sadly, due to a back issue, I cannot get comfortable enough with the body on to ride it safely so sadly I have decided to part with it.
