This is my reliant scimitar ss1 ti that i have completely rebuilt over the last 5 years.
it cam. To me in pretty much barn find condition. I stripped it down and rebuilt/ replaced/ refurbished/ upgraded/ uprated as appropriate to create a road going sprint and hillclimb car. The car was originally gold, but i bought a set of panels off an rssoc member that had been repainted in blue, and fitted those (v5 was updated for the colour change).
it is a very rare car, being one of a manufacturing run of approx 1500, and one of around 350 that were designated as a ti. The ti moniker, meant that you got the ca18et 1. 8ltr turbocharged engine and gearbox from the nissan silvia s12. these were good for around 130bhp, but with a few simple tweaks would deliver 180bhp.
this car has been fitted with the nissan ca18det engine from the s13 200sx. Those that know their nissan engines will know that the evolution of the ca18et was the ca18det. The blocks look virtually identical, but the det head is a twin cam. There are a few other improvements with the det over the et, but the result is a more powerful engine.
with the car weighing approx 930kg and having 238bhp, it gives you 255bhp per tonne! More than most porsche 911s and merc amgs. The fun doesn't stop there, it handles very well indeed and will take corners at speeds you didn't think were possible. But just remember, it doesn't have abs, traction control or any other get of jail free cards to play. The rear suspension on these is independent, using a sierra diff with drive shafts, trailing arms, coil overs and an arb. It works very well. Up front you have double wishbones, based on the chevette set up, but a bit meatier. The front shocks are mounted in board cantilever style like a proper racing car !
spare parts are readily available, and generally very cheap. This is down to reliant borrowing things from other manufacturers, as small volume car builders usually do.
i've competed in the car at ty croes, aintree, curborough, 3 sisters, blyton park, harewood etc. In both the classic marques sports car club's speed challenge and the rssoc scimitar/ sabre championship. I’ve had some great results with it, and picked up a few trophies along the way.
it is fully road legal, and has an mot. During the summe. I often take it out for a blast around the peak district and it never fails to put a big grin on your face.
i see this appealing to three different groups of buyers;
1) those that want a sprint and hillclimb car that will be immediately competitive. Or maybe as a drag car?
2) those that want a track day car.
3) those that just want a very fast road car. That's is a little bit more refined than a caterham/ westfield/ locost etc.
you may even be all three !
the pictures make it look much better cosmetically than it actually is. Externally it looks pretty good, but on close inspection you'd see that there are a few battle scars and that the panels aren't perfectly aligned (but they never were from the factory. Reliant didn't work to vw panel fit standards..). the interior is a similar story, but could easily be made to look very nice.
mechanically the car is very good. The engine has done less than 1000 miles since having a full machining and rebuild by "the head shop" in warrington (better known for their aston martin engines). it was then installed with a full set of genuine nissan gaskets and oil seals. The clutch has the same mileage, and the gearbox is a mk2 nissan s12 in perfect condition (with shock proof high performance gear oil). the limited slip diff was brand new in august last year.
it gave 238bhp on the dyno with 210lbft of torque (i have the print outs). a crude 0-60 test on an app showed a time of 4. 7 secs (with 3:92 diff). it wouldn't take much to see that bhp figure increase much more. I set the boost at a relatively safe 1 bar, but with a tweak of the boost controller you could probably see around 270bhp +.
it could be used as a fast road car. It has an mot and all the correct road lighting (pop up headlights etc.). the adjustable shocks are currently set up for the track, but it would be a simple job to raise the ride height a touch and soften them off to make it less brutal on the road. It is mind blowingly fast out on the road.
as a track car. It is very well sorted. At curborough last year it won the road going class with a 67 second lap time. It was running a 3:62 diff which was too tall, but it now has a 3:92 which should help it see times of 65+ seconds. It also set a scimitar track record at blyton at the end of last season.
full bolt in roll cage (msuk spec). could be removed and replaced with a roll hoop (available from the rssoc), if you want a road car. You could also unbolt the front half of the cage (as in one of the photos).
lowered driver's side floor, with reinforced crossmembers. (i'm just under 6'3" and can fit into this very comfortably, with helmet and hans).
driver's side harness & standard seatbelts for both seats.
mr2 mk3 seats (currently fitted) and carbon fibre race seat for driver’s side when required (four bolts to swap seats)
20ltr alloy racing fuel tank with swirl pot and low & high pressure pumps (it'll do approx 100 miles on 20lts). a full size tank comes with the car if you are looking for a bit more range.
wilwood brake calipers with vented discs and yellow stuff pads
22mm master cylinder & wheel cylinders (new shoes 25 miles ago). standard master is 20mm.
blackline lsd in a 3:92 sierra diff. This was a brand new lsd in august last year.
mk2 s12 gearbox with quick shifter.
paddle clutch with exedy pressure plate (not too aggressive, this is a great combo)
tubular stainless steel exhaust manifold built specifically for this car by maxspec engineering (it's a work of art)

the price is £10, 950 ovno (it would cost you way more than this to build it, the engine alone would be £5-6k). what else can you buy with this sort of performance for around £10k? !!!! prices are on the rise, so you could buy this. Enjoy it for a few years, and sell it on at a profit.
delivery is possible within the uk at cost.
i will include a set of 7x13" compomotive alloy wheels with 205/ 60/ 13 extreme race tyres and a set of 7x15" alloy wheels with 195/ 45/ 15 shaved rs3 road tyres (the photos show each different set on the car)
a full size fuel tank (if you want a road car)
a carbon fibre race seat.
a colour matched hard top.
a ca18det spares package (maf/ cas/ ecu/ head) will be available by separate negotiation.
the trailer in the photo is also available for an extra £2k if sold with the car (which is about £750 below market price). if you buy the car and trailer i’ll deliver them both foc within 200 miles.
there are plenty of videos of the car on my youtube channel, both in-car competition runs and walk arounds. The link below takes you to a walk around video filmed on 1st may.

i'm a very busy person and love to talk cars, but please only make an enquiry if you are genuinely interested and have the funds to buy. I will not be accepting any silly offers, so please don't waste yours and my time. I'm happy to negotiate the price downwards, if there are any bits you don't want such as a set of wheels or the roll cage, race seat, race tank etc.
the car will not leave my sight unti. The funds are in my bank account. No cash or cheques, bacs only.
test drives - sorry but these won't happen no matter how much you beg me. I'll drive it and demonstrate it to you.
this is a hand built british sports car. It creaks and rattles and has bags of character (think tvr/ lotus/ kit car). please don't expect a refined modern sports car. You'll be very disappointed.
if you want to buy this unseen and send a trailer/ truck to collect i can assist with loading.
there are no warranties implied or given with this car and no returns. It's a 35 year old classic british sports car after all.
please contact via email in the first instance.
