Offered For Sale is Betsie, our 1987 Renault Extra Van.
This is an original UK RHD van with the super reliable 1. 4 petrol engine fitted with the 5 speed box.
This comes with MOT until July 2022 and pretty much all MOT’s present since 2002.
Bodywork itself presents well. There are marks and small dents as you expect from a used 35 year old light commercial vehicle, most of which are evident in the photos. Original livery remains from the previous owner, a Motor Engineers who owned, ran and serviced her over many years. Some previous paint evident on the roof lower section, some faded and mismatched in places. The sills were repaired prior to my ownership but I have tidied, prepped and finished these in a close blue to the remaining bodywork. There has been previous repair also to the lower screen corners which I have again prepped and painted. Bumper and external trim has been prepped and refinished in textured black. New pressed UK legal plates have been added also. This model comes with the benefit of the factory giraffe roof, fully operational without leaks and a nice original feature.
Running gear is in good condition with suggested mileage of 172, 500 but she’s clearly been treated well by her previous owners and has benefited from regular servicing and parts as needed (history retained within the companies accounts). The 1400cc engine and 5 speed box are basic, but reliable. It accelerates well and will happily and comfortably sit at 55 / 60mph all day long. No undue noises or smoke on start up or whilst driving and under acceleration. Brakes are spot on and pull up straight and sharp. Clutch is also spot on. There was mention previously of a small oil leak which hasn’t caused concern and I haven’t chased. There is also evidence of a tiny water leak from the water pump, a new one has been purchased and will be supplied within the sale of the van. I have added a small pancake filter (original airbox included) and upper strut brace, more aesthetic than to increase performance.
I have added an original set of Factory Renault 19 15” alloys complete with excellent Michelin 195 50 15 Pilot Sport 3’s. Wheels have been refinished in a gunmetal silver and present well.
Underside is in good condition and without damage, just some areas of recent weld repair including an area of inner sill and both sill ends. There has also been repair to the rear inner arches within the load space, evident within the photos. Inner arches are good but the lower inner rear panels would benefit from a little tidying and repair although not necessary for the MOT.
The cabin of the van remains basic with evidence of wear but it is complete with all elements working as they should with just the exception of the passenger door winder mechanism. This has been removed and requires replacing. I have added a pair of Audi TT half leather seats as the previous seat were damaged. These sit a little lower but offer a much more comfortable driving position. A small sports steering wheel and associated steering wheel boss have also been added (original included).
This is a nice little van in good condition, a sought-after collectable marque with parts readily available. The value of these continue to increase with this one priced realistically for the condition and additions.
I have entered this for an MOT early and have addressed all of the small issues with the exception of the headlights, the LED’s fitted don’t offer a beam pattern so originals will need sourcing and replacing.
To confirm this is a 32 year old van that has been used, serviced and repaired by it previous owners, a motor engineering company. This hasn’t been restored it has been repaired and used. The photos give a good representation of the overall condition but again further detailed photos available. There is room for improvement as you drive it. It would benefit from a service and perhaps the carb setting up as it still runs with a little choke since the new filter was added.
I have several parts including new lowering springs for the front and new shocks along with 2 additional matching Renault 19 wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres, as well as a cherry bomb back box and a full service kit. These additional parts will be included if the full asking price is met.

The van drives well and is fully road legal but for anyone interested in the van considering transporting rather than driving away, I do have access to a friends trailer and I am willing to offer a delivery service depending on distance; with an additional cost agreed prior to a completion of a sale and only after the van is viewed.
