1929 Lea Francis V Type coupe For Sale
VB 6162 was first registered in 1929 to Mr Taylor of Sutton, who kept the car until it was purchased in 1936 by a Mr Sinclair. On the 12th May 1936 Lea Frances cars supplied a new radiator with new style radiator cap, which is still present today. A note on club register records from 29th May 1936 states VB 6162 mileage as 46225 and seems to indicate that VB6162 was present at the Lea Francis workshops at the time.
In 1961, Lea Frances club member, Derek Whitehouse acquired VB6162 and she remained with him until the latter part of 1994, when acquired by John Gill. At the time of purchase, the original engine was crated and needing rebuild. John’s attitude, “of do it once do it right” meant that Phoenix crank and rods along with re-profiled camshaft, as found in un-blown Hypers, had to be fitted. John rebuilt and reinstalled the original engine, and proceeded to use VB6162 extensively until 1999. John then undertook repair and cosmetic work to the original body, which by this point had become tired. Back on the road, John again used the car to a great extent and with great success; John won the Lycett Trophy in 2002, not least due to the performance of VB 6162
A joy to drive and a great allrounder for road events, VB 6162 has a surprisingly spacious interior, with ample leg room for adults both in the front and rear and space for three children. The fixed secure storage trunk makes for very practical motoring, and the car is in formidable condition, not least due to the meticulous nature of John Gill. John and his family valued, preserved and enjoyed this car for many years, and gained many awards and trophies to show for the time and commitment they invested.
Ready for a new home and new adventure, early enquiry about this car is recommended, as interest is understandably high.
Special note of thanks to Mr Colin Pointer, who was very helpful during the compilation of the VB6162’s history.
