Hi everyone, it is with a heavy heart that I have put my rather lovely 1978 Kawasaki Z1000A2 up for sale to free up funds and space for a rather special Vincent Rapide that I hope to acquire soon…my bucket list is slowly getting shorter.
I have owned the Kwak for about 18 months and in that time recommissioned it with new tyres, battery, spokes, wheel bearings, Marving exhaust and innumerable smaller bit and bobs. The choke plungers have been refurbished by Rob Meggitt and the carbs are as clean as a whistle. It’s got Dyna S ignition and coils with all new leads, caps, advance springs and plugs too.
It’s not a bike for the purist as can be seen from the photos, but I think the period mods make the bike look great, but then I would I suppose? The paint was done about 5 years ago in Z900A4 colours and it’s still in good shape. The rims are original, there is a bit of pitting but they clean up nicely.
The front discs have been drilled and fitted with EBC green stuff pads, they are by far the best 70s brakes I have experienced. The bike always starts immediately and once warmed up, pulls very well indeed. The pipe is brand new and quite loud as I didn’t fit the wadding that came with it. I still have that though. There are just under 53000 miles on the clock which is probably correct, though I have no proof. The only issue with it is a small oil leak from the left hand end of the head gasket. It was going to be a job for this winter…
