A very rare factory option that is fitted to this Cayman S is the mechanically locking rear differential, it further enhances the traction of the driven rear wheels on uneven roads and when accelerating out of tight bends, and the damping of load-change reactions during fast cornering is reduced. Road holding at the limits of performance is even more impressive. The car holds its course better and so PSM intervenes less often. In other words, sheer driving pleasure.
The Cayman S comes fitted with the mid mounted 3. 4 litre DFI flat six engine that produces 321bhp. With this being a 987. 2 Cayman S, it is cleaner and more efficient, translating to cheaper annual road tax, just £340 instead of £585, a significant saving to annual running costs. The 987 generation 2 cars do not suffer all of the problems of later 718 cars, such as turbo/ oil supply failures, or earlier 987 generation 1 cars, including IMS bearing failures, RMS leaks and Borescoring, all of these issues were eradicated by Porsche when they designed the all-new direct fuel injection (DFI) naturally aspirated 987. 2 Boxster and Cayman engines.
