1986 vauxhall astra antibes 1. 3l in red with contrasting red/ grey striped interior.
this is a very honest car that had just one owner from new in 1986 until his death is 2021. the car was clearly cherished by him and the history file supporting the car is amazing including the original invoice from the supplying dealer, mot history until 2007 when he stopped driving, the original brochure and price lists, the handbook/ service book, old receipts for all parts bought/ work carried out and most amazingly a small blue notebook detailing the mileage every time the car was filled up with petrol including the mpg and notes around service items undertaken by him.
the car stood in a garage from 2007 when the original owner stopped driving and i purchased the car last year with the intention to restore it to concourse condition; But i have since realised following a couple of major changes in my life that i am not in the position to do this and so i am seeking the next owner to take on the mantle and make this already great car amazing!
for a car that is 36 years old she really doesn't present badly. Undoubtedly during her lifetime she has had some paintwork (including not a great spray job on the rear passenger door) but she looks great from 10 feet away. A friend of mine machine polished her a couple of months ago so i could work out what paintwork i wanted to do and there are bits of touching up all over required but most importantly the bonnet needs a paint and the rear arches need some work to them. I have had a quote for £700 to get both of these things attended to. The rest of the car has minor areas that need doing with a touch up pen and it would sort it out. I have acquired a set of passenger side original graphics which will go with the car.
mechanically she starts, drives and stops. She has an mot until july this year; Which is kind of why it has come to crunch time for me. I have been advised by my mechanic that she needs a carb rebuild as she has a flat spot on acceleration and i also intended to change the cam belt as i cannot find any paper work as to when this was done. The engine bay is clean and tidy.
the interior is original and amazing. The seats and carpet are in great condition. She has a tilt/ slide glass sunroof, height adjustable drivers seat, adjustable steering wheel and central locking - all mod cons for 1986! she has the original gm front rubber mats and the radio cassette player works. The headlining needs a wipe over as there are a couple of dirty marks but nothing that looks permanent. The gas struts on the boot need replacing (i did buy some but they were too long!) i have sourced and painted the original wheel trims as it came with some 'halfords' specials on it - they could do with some light sanding and a proper paint but i got them on so she looked better!
all in all she is a very honest car that with some love would be superb. There are not many of these pre face lift mark 2 astra's around; Let alone the rare and uber 80's antibes model so i think when she is perfect given her provenance she will be a very valuable car.

I am located in droitwich, just off junction 5 of the m5. i have tried to be as honest as i can with the description to reflect accurately the condition of the car - but i am not saying you couldn't show her and enjoy her immediately if you wanted; I am just someone who likes things to be perfect!
