1954 Sunbeam Talbot 90 Drophead Coupe

4 Cyclinder 2267 cc Mark IIa produced about 77 BHP giving the car a top speed in the high 80s (hence the '90' in the name)

Talbot 90s and their sister car the Alpine were sueccessful rally cars in the 1950s with major international success - eg Stirling Moss came 2nd in the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally in a 90 Mk II

The car had extensive bodywork done in 2010/ 11 and the paintwork is still superb. The interior was re-upholstered in light tan hide at the same time.

Mechanically since 2012 the following work has been carried out : A complete engine overhaul - the crank reground and the block rebored, new valve guides fitted and the head skimmed. New main and big end bearings, pistons, thrust washers and valve springs fitted. The fly-wheel was lightened and engine parts were balanced before reassembly by Andrews Precision Engineering, Bromsgrove. The distributor was reconditioned by Distributor Doctor. The water pump was overhauled by EP Services. A new old stock carburettor was sourced and a Facet electronic fuel pump replaced the original.
A replacement/ overhauled gear box, a new clutch and thrust bearing were fitted. The column gear change was converted to Castles floor change.

The steering box was rebuilt with new old stock parts by Holman Engineering in London. New track rod ends, new cross tube, tie rod and anti roll bar bushes were fitted and then electric fully adjustable power steering was fitted. Replacement and uprated shock absorbers were fitted from Svensons of Birmingham. New brake linings, brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders have been fitted.

We bought her in 2019 for £24, 650 from a serious Sunbeam enthusiast who had spent hundreds of hours on the mechanicals. Since then, we have spent almost £4, 000 on various mechanical improvements including new (original) fuel and speed gauges and alternator conversion kit and wiring . She's in lovely condition and drives beautifully. For 6 months of the winter each year she has been professionally stored.

Sunbeam Talbot 90 saloons, coupes and the Sunbeam Alpine are well supported by STAR – The Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register. Even though ST 90s are quite rare compared with for eg Austins, MGs or Fords of this era, mechanical parts and service items are readily sourced.

We'll be very sorry to see her go but don't really have the time to drive and enjoy her as much as we'd like. She has Historic Vehicle M. O. T. exemption but we would be happy to get her MOT'd if required.

We have extensive invoices and paperwork relating to her going back many years
