Hardly any car has a comparable iconic status with a Jaguar E-type.
Even Enzo Ferrari has repeatedly stated that "the E-type is the most beautiful car in the world". In addition, the performance is just as sensational as the design: with a top speed of more than 240 km/ h, the E-type was the world's fastest production car. A feat that Jaguar managed to repeat several times, another unique fact.
History of the E-type
Few cars can truly claim to be a milestone, but the Jaguar E-type undoubtedly belongs to that category. It caused an immediate sensation when it was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961.
The 3. 8-litre inline six-cylinder engine with 3 carburettors and 265hp could push the test cars to over 150mph - a figure that made headlines around the world and created a demand that Jaguar initially struggled to meet.
It wasn't just the out-of-this-world performance, there was the iconic shape, which was the work of aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer - the same man responsible for Jaguar's Le Mans-winning C-type and D-type. Under the skin, the E-type actually owed a lot to the D-type; The E-type also has a construction consisting of a 'monocoque' center section with a subframe that carries the engine and front suspension. However, independent suspension was chosen at the rear at a time when many of Jaguar's rivals still used a traditional live axle.
Production got off to a slow start in the summer of 1961, with a focus on roadster construction for the all-important US market - for example, only 342 cars were built for the UK market that year. Coupés also started rolling out of Browns Lane in August and September and both models were offered at a fraction of the price of a Ferrari or Aston Martin, the E-type's only real rivals. In October 1961 the external hood locks were replaced by an internal construction and in May-June 1962 leg and foot room were added to the previously flat floor. Both features – the external hood latches and the flat floor – are now used as an abbreviated way of describing specific periods of early E-type production. At the end of 1964, the 3. 8-litre engine was replaced by a larger 4. 2-litre variant of the venerable XK six-cylinder inline engine. A new fully synchromesh Jaguar four-speed gearbox was also fitted, in place of the old Moss gearbox. The Series 1 was eventually replaced by the facelifted Series 2 in 1968. However, thanks to the timeless mix of stunning looks and immense performance, the Series I has secured its place in history.
About this E-type
This sharp Jaguar E-Type 4. 2 liter 'Open Two Seater' left the gates of Browns Lane on February 17, 1965, and was shipped to the Belgian Motor Company, in Brussels, with final destination Monsieur Lonquert. Subsequently, the E-Type spent its life in Belgium and France respectively. In 2007, the Jaguar was fully restored, with no expense spared. Followed by a full engine overhaul in 2009, after which the roadster has traveled less than 10, 000 km.
The interior has also been completely redesigned and extremely skilfully upholstered in chic gray leather, one of the three original colors available in combination with a Dark Blue exterior, in addition to light blue and red. Finally, the mohair soft top is custom made and is in optimal condition. Since the restoration, the car has traveled less than 10, 000 kilometers and the E-Type is therefore in magnificent new condition.
To drive
Driving an early Jaguar E-type is always a magical, almost ecstatic experience. A good E-type is also fast and easy to handle by contemporary standards. It's almost unimaginable that a 1965 car could offer such a combination of agility, speed and agility. The particularly attractive color combination “Dark Blue” with gray leather makes the most of the already fantastic lines of the E-type.
