This is a very special BJ8 Healey 1965 triple carb car. Owned by the famous graphic designer Aubrey Powell and restored in 1989 at a staggering cost of £49, 000 at the time.

Aubrey Powell designed in the 1970s and 1980s for many of the most famous rock bands of the era including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Yes, Genesis, 10cc, Peter Gabriel, Bad Company, Emerson; Lake & Palmer, Scorpions, Styx, Syd Barrett, and Black Sabbath.

In 1989 Aubrey asked leading Healey specialist JME Healey to find and restore a car to the highest standards. The decision was made to restore and build a BJ8 1965 car. The purpose was to have a car that benefitted from the best of both race and road , hard top and and soft top.

The recipe was all the best bits of race with the comfort of the 2+2 grey leather interior trim with no expense spared. The car has as you would expect from JME all the cool stuff, aluminium panels, all round disc brakes, triple carbs, racing vents, racing side pipes, Sebring style racing hard top & overdrive all complementing a perfect RHD rust free car.

The car was then finished in a deep metallic silver and fitted with the best Boarrni 72 spoke black wheels which have just been fitted with new oversized BFG tyres so the car’s presence now matches the dramatic sound of the big straight six firing out of her racing side pipes. This car now introduces itself on arrival both visually and audibly, it's like an English gentleman’s sophisticated AC Cobra.

The car left the UK in 2005 to a Swiss owner who was also a leading graphic designer and under his eye the additional black Vinyl was added which gives the car gravitas and a villainous persona straight from action film. We are not sure if the car was kept in an underground lair but suspect it’s highly likely!

The car was then bought back to the UK and was sent back to JME for a full inspection. JME comprised a list of work which the car would benefit from including new tyres and new steering box, rubber mounts etc. The schedule of work was agreed to keep the car in its tip top condition and now we have the pleasure of selling her, if you were to ask JME for the same car today it would be in the region of £150000 we are told.
