The Ferrari 456 represented the start of a new era for the brand in 1992. A completely newly designed V12 with a 65-degree cylinder angle and a new chassis with a front-engine transaxle layout later formed the basis for the other 12-cylinder models with modifications. Here in 2+2 seater form in a very successful and elegant Pininfarina design, which borrowed details from Ferrari history, e. g. from the Daytona. Although the cabin space was superior to that of its predecessor, the 412, the 456 seemed much more compact. In terms of workmanship and the look and feel of the interior, the 456 GT was a quantum leap for Ferrari and thus also groundbreaking for the future. A spoiler under the rear apron changed its position depending on travel speed. The dampers could be adjusted to three levels (soft/ medium/ sport) at the push of a button.
At the end of production in 2003, the 456 was the last Ferrari with pop-up headlights.
