Rally Preparation Services is very pleased to be able to offer for sale this very well presented 1974 Mercedes Benz 230 Sedan.
The vendor first purchased this W115 Mercedes in April 2017 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. At that stage he and his wife were in the market for a tough, reliable, and comfortable car for long distance rallying.
The Mercedes W115 is known all over the world to be an incredibly durable and reliable car. It is reported that in 2004 a Greek taxi driver donated his W115 to the Mercedes-Benz Museum Collection after it had covered and recorded some 4. 6 million kilometers / 2. 9 million miles. That car is recognized as the only Mercedes-Benz with such a high recorded mileage known to date.
The initial idea was to be able to rally for a month in comfort, so quite promptly some very effective air conditioning was fitted. The car’s shell was then insulated with Dynamat and trimmed out with a new carpeted interior making it a great place to spend a long and sometimes hot day at the wheel.
The original front seats have been retained and rebuilt which are comfortable and supportive as Mercedes originally specified. Other rally enhancements include a roll cage, sump guard, CIBIE driving lights, fire extinguisher and trip meter. To accommodate two spare wheels the rear seat has been removed and these now hang off the roll cage. There is a dedicated storage area in the boot for extra fuel and spare parts.
As part of the preparation the Mercedes had a major rebuild during 2017/ 2018 which included works to the engine, radiator, suspension, clutch, differential and brakes. The alloy 15” wheels were refurbished and fitted with 4 x 4 tyres which, together with new coil springs, give an additional 3” of ground clearance.
Having not done much work in the vendors care the car has now come up for sale. Currently going through the registration process in the UK the car will be fully UK registered.
All in all, this Mercedes has wanted for nothing during its preparation work having had many thousands of Australian Dollars spent on it.
