Description
This simply stunning Rover Metro 1. 4 SL 5 door hatchback was built in January 1991 and registered new at Four Seasons ROVER Kingston, it even retains the original dealer rear window sticker and number plates.
Having covered only 19 thousand miles in 30 years this must be the very best example of this very rare model remaining. The S. L. was an expensive car new in my personal opinion the best specification car in the Metro range.
In 2018 the car was subject to major re-commission work with only 16 thousand miles on the clock. This work was completed by a well known MG/ Rover specialist in Birmingham regardless of cost to bring the car back to a very high standard and also ensure reliability for long term use.
Bodywork
Finished in Rover Flame red the sides are arrow straight, the car retains all the original body panels, it’s totally rust free. I understand there was some minimal paintwork correction done prior to my ownership this has been completed to an extremely high standard. I’m not sure what as it’s so good. In July 2018 the car was fully rust treated at Krown rust control LTD. The door cards e. t. c. were removed and all panels were rust treated again in 2021 by myself. This is a completely rust free and well protected example.
All plastic exterior trim and bright work is still excellent with the exception of the front bumper that has some very slight scratches, I’m being very fussy here as it’s difficult to see.
Running Gear.
Fitted with the multi award winning (when new) 1396cc k-series power unit. This is the lovely 8 valve single cam unit a sweet well maintained example with KIF carb and non catalyst, possibly the best combination giving fantastic fuel economy and smooth running able to comfortably run at motorway speed 76PS when fitted to the 5 speed gearbox. This example starts first turn of the key and is quiet smooth throughout the rev range. The gearbox again quiet and reflects the ultra low mileage of this fantastic example.
A full set of new Goodyear tires fitted when the car was re-commissioned, these are still as new, suspension is still very level and smooth. All grease points have new nipples without any play in the radius arms due to it having regular maintenance.
Interior
All trim and carpets are in exceptional condition original Rover rubber over mats have been fitted from new. The Granite Chevron fabric trim is unmarked seats are very comfortable. An original Rover radio cassette player with code is present and fully working.
In 2019 the car was displayed at Festival of the Unexceptional on the Concours De L’ordinaire.
In summery this is an extremely rare model very few SL Metro’s remain this example has been maintained regardless of cost by both the previous owner and myself. I’ve fitted a new genuine Rover front pipe the other parts of the exhaust are original. Brakes have been fully serviced ready for summer use. Due to a change in circumstances the car will be offered for sale having been fully serviced using MG Rover parts and with a full 12 months M. O. T. ready to show in 2023.
