In June 2014 Porsche launched a Porsche Classic Restoration Competition in which their Porsche Classic registered dealers could enter a car in the hope of winning the much-coveted best restored Porsche award. The car had to be either a Turbo or Targa model as 2014 marked the 40th anniversary of the launch of these models.
The competition rules stipulated that the car had to retain as much originality as possible and any parts replaced and finishing had to be to Porsche factory standards and specification.
Porsche Centre Guildford have always been enthusiastic participants in the Classic Porsche scene and they immediately entered the contest. After much searching, they found a nice 964 Carrera 2 Targa with full history as a perfect subject for this competition. Their programme of works as detailed on file began with a full evaluation of the car once it had been stripped of parts. The no compromise rebuilding of each area then began with their partner, the highly regarded Premier Panel Skills, one of only 15 approved Porsche body repairers in the country who were entrusted with the structure, bodywork and paint.
The Targa was clearly beautifully finished as it won best car in the bodywork and paint category and went on to be displayed at the Porsche GB headquarters in Reading and later in November 2014 at the NEC Classic Motor Show. In addition, it has featured in a number of marque publications that detailed the competition in a series of articles.
Following its success the Targa was sold and has resided in the private collection of a Porsche loving enthusiast since. It has covered few miles but has been very carefully looked after and hence remains in the fabulous prize-winning condition in all respects. It is however not just a concours trailer queen. All mechanical aspects of the car were examined and restored, consequently the Targa drives beautifully with a tightness synonymous of a well fettled example.
It comes with the above-mentioned history file, all books including the original stamped service book and full details of the restoration programme including, of course, the winning cup.
