1940 Auto Union Wanderer W23 For Sale

I am offering for sale our Auto Union Wanderer W23 in need of restoration with a large 2. 6 liter six-cylinder engine and 62 hp. Now that I am 72 years old myself, I will probably no longer be able to restore the old Wanderer, which I have been planning to do for decades. It hurts a lot because I was brought home from the hospital with my mother in this car immediately after I was born in 1951.

My father drove the car for a few more years until he bought a VW Beetle, which might have been a little more economical to drive. After a technical overhaul and new paintwork, the Wanderer was stored in a garage for many years. Unfortunately, one day the landlady announced her own needs. That was the fate of the faithful companion! It had to eke out its future life in our garden until I stored the car in my garage in the 1980s. But by then it was already too late! Unfortunately, the elements had left their mark.

The car is therefore a case for a total restoration. That would also be a condition of sale. I don't want the car to be disassembled for spare parts! I spent far too many hours behind the wheel of the car as a child and imagined how great it would be to get the car going again! Once, many years later, the weary wanderer was even allowed to act as an extra in a war movie!

I've bought quite a few spare parts over the years. I also have a second engine, rear axle, steering, trunk lid, fuel tank, various sheet metal parts, headlights, repair manuals, parts catalogues, and more specific to the W23 model. These parts may also be available. The car has valid papers from the Republic of Austria, with only one entry of ownership, that of my father, Ing. Alfred Riekmann.
