Description
An exceptional late production XJS that has covered 45, 000 miles in the hands of five owners from new. Each has looked after it very carefully as detailed in the extensive history file and as shown in the excellent original order of the car today. Most recently in 2020/ 21, the XJS underwent a full examination followed by an extensive refurbishment by acknowledged XJS specialists KWE Engineering. They completed all work found necessary on inspection including a full engine reseal and suspension, steering and brake upgrade together with a rear differential rebuild. Invoices on file amounting to £20, 000 details this. Suffice it to say the car now performs beautifully with such focussed fluency and smoothness compared to others.
Finished in the great colour combination of Kingfisher with optional Magnolia leather trim, the XJS was supplied when new by Jaguar main dealer Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton on the 1st of August 1992. As detailed in the original invoice, the first owner was a regular customer who part exchanged a three year old XJS for this new example.
This first owner retained the XJS for seven years and maintained it perfectly with the supplying dealer as shown in the fully stamped service book and detailed in a complete set of invoices, it was serviced annually and returned to Guy Salmon for even the smallest fault.
In 1999 at 30, 000 miles the first owner sold the car to Sunningdale Jaguar who sold it in November of that year to a Jaguar enthusiast based in Worcestershire, the XJS joining his small private collection of perfect examples from the Jaguar/ Daimler marque. He retained the car until 2010 and correctly maintained it with Jaguar main dealer HA Fox, again as documented in service stamps and invoices on file up to 2005 and 37, 000 miles. At this point the XJS was carefully stored until it was sold in 2010 to the highly regarded Jaguar specialists Robert Hughes Ltd who only entertain the finest examples.
Following an extensive re-commissioning service Robert Hughes sold the XJS to another marque enthusiast based in North Yorkshire. He kept it until 2013, the mileage rising to 43, 000 miles in his ownership. As before the car was carefully looked after and maintained by The Preston Jag Centre.
In 2013, the fourth owner, again a marque enthusiast based in Edinburgh bought the XJS and again he looked after it correctly as detailed on file during his seven years of ownership. He covered less than 4, 000 miles in these seven years, it would appear he spent more time detailing and perfecting the XJS than driving it.
In 2020 the car was offered for sale by an Edinburgh based dealer and was sold in July of that year to the last owner, a fastidious collector of contemporary classics who will entertain only the finest examples. Following purchase he sent the car straight to Jaguar specialists KWE who completed a full and detailed inspection, a copy is of course on file. They concluded that the car was fundamentally sound with body and interior in excellent condition and a strong engine and transmission. The brakes, steering and suspension had some typical worn components.
This new owner then commissioned a renovation programme with KWE in which all areas found wanting were addressed along with KWE upgrades to steering, brakes and their own suspension system was fitted. As mentioned above and detailed in invoicing some £20, 000 was spent resulting in the excellent car we have today. KWE have continued to maintain the XJS, the last service and check being completed on the 14th April 2023.
All in all this must be one of the finest late examples of the V12 powered XJS available. It has a lovely specification, a full and comprehensive history, is in virtually unmarked original condition and drives faultlessly. It comes with all original books in the correct wallet, all keys, tools and a substantial history file.
