Description
Rootes produced some very fine cars during the 1960s and the Sunbeam Alpine sports range was certainly no exception . This 1964 Mk1V with the wire wheels and overdrive is a well know car to us , restored by a retired garage owner and engineer primarily as a car for his wife to use locally on nice days to the shops, but would also double up alongside his own classic car at the shows. Acquired dismantled as a bare shell but with all the metal structure having been carried out professionally and at great expense, it provided the perfect basis to build a very solid car. The engine had been fully rebuilt only 5, 000 miles before so the ingredients were all there from the start to create a very good car.
It’s not hard to see the appeal of the Alpine with its light and positive rack and pinion steering, modern feel gear change, and a lively engine with the recognised and desirable twin choke webber carburettor on this one. Front disc brakes providing reassuring stopping power when needed and the all matching Pirelli tyres ensure the car stays firmly on the road ahead. The interior is a blend of sports car and luxury saloon with a full array of drivers instruments including rev counter, walnut dashboard, and fully carpeted through out with a very useful padded seat area behind the drivers and passenger seats to put your sundry items on.
