Jaguar Mk X Auto: Unrestored/ Superb Example 35k from new
The Jaguar Mark X (Mark Ten) was Jaguar’s top-of-the-range saloon car from 1961 to 1970. The model was a hallmark car for Jaguar introducing the upright, slightly forward leaning front fascia and grille flanked by prominent quad round headlights with a real presence in the company carpark - the model is the epitome of space, grace and pace.
Mechanically the car copied much of the E-Type technology, innovations and specification including unitary bodywork, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension and the silk-smooth 3. 8 triple-carb E-type engine giving Jaguar’s flagship car a top speed in excess of 120mph and very capable handling.
In July 1963 Oscar Weiss, a geologist, ordered his new Jaguar Mark X salon finished in the stunning combination of Opal Maroon/ Beige Trim with uprated 9. 1 compression ratio (E-Type specification) engine. The Jaguar was used sparingly and maintained fastidiously during his ownership and by 1995 had covered just 22k miles when ownership passed to Oscar’s wife and the car marketed by Hurst Park Automobiles.
The Jaguar was purchased from Hurst Park by a senior Ford engineer and became the family high day & holiday car for the next 28 years. Always maintained to the highest standards today the Jaguar has covered a warranted 35k miles from new.
At Milestones we sadly still get very excited when a special car appears on our radar. We were contacted by Jim the owner (and previous Milestones customer) some weeks ago about a possible part-exchange. We both drove down to his workshop and when the dust cover was lifted from his pride and joy we knew immediately that this was a ‘Milestones’ car.
Mechanically the MkX has wanted for nothing over the past 60 years and drives perfectly – there is nothing quite like a straight six soundtrack – with brisk performance and smooth gear changes the car easily copes with modern driving conditions.
The Opal Maroon paint & chrome work is outstanding and work perfectly with the beige interior (you really wouldn’t want a dark interior) with just the right level of patina. The car draws positive comments wherever you park.
The Jaguar comes with one of the largest history files we have ever seen including original sales invoice, old V5’s, all MOT’s, lots of invoices, road test and contemporary sales literature etc. etc. It is a great read,
Equally at home on long distance wine trips, the Goodwood Revival car park or simply a run down to the local pub with friends this car really ticks every box. Needs to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated
