Caterham/ Westfield shaped kit cars are commonplace in the UK and are often referred to as a LoCost. In theory anyone with practical skills can buy a book and build one from its contents. This one has been named the Fowler after its builder who was an engineer by trade.
The car features 1976 Ford Escort underpinnings including a 1300 engine, gearbox and rear axle. A small engine but in a very light car. The bodywork is in very good order with a great shine to its metallic red paint. The vendor drove the car over 60 miles to deliver it to us at auction, so it clearly runs well and keeps up with modern day traffic. Currently Ford Escort RS Turbo wheels are fitted, but wider wheels have previously been mounted on the car hence the rear arch gap. The odometer will have been zeroed at the time of the build and now reads the correct mileage for the car.
The sale includes a V5 registration document as well as a whole box of history for the car. This includes lots of photos of the build, lots of receipts for parts and maintenance as well as old MOT’s.
To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on July 1st at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU with viewing on the 29th and 30th of June, you can also join us at our Nostalgia Social cars & coffee event on June 25th. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen, condition reports can be requested on each lot by contacting us direct. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction. Fully illustrated catalogue is available on the Richard Edmonds Auction website. Bids can be made online, by telephone or live on site. All lots are subject to commission.
Vehicles that are un-registered or on foreign plates may require Import Duty and Vat to be paid upon purchase via HMRC prior to registering with the DVLA for a UK plate, if you are not sure please ask. For classic cars over 30 years this equates to 5% Duty on the final value. For cars described as MOT exempt (pre-1983) these vehicles may need their exemption registered with the DVLA.
