For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Austin® Champ in Military Green (1952).
4CYL Rolls Royce B40 Petrol Engine.. MOT Exempt. Tax Exempt. 17, 349 miles from new with a mileage record going back to new. Comes with doors and side screens. Only one former keeper since military release in 1965.
Here for sale we have this Austin Champ, which are becoming hard to find in this condition and with this level of history supplied. This remarkable champ was manufactured in 1952, and was struck off from service at MOD Ruddington on 20/ 07/ 1962 with 225 miles on the clock. It was then sold in 1965 having been registered with the DVLA on 14/ 01/ 1965. As mentioned, it has had just one former keeper since that time, and a full mileage record exists showing todays mileage as being completely correct.
Externally, as one can see, this Champ is presented in a fantastic condition with most of the elements one would hope to see on a vehicle of this magnitude. The roof also comes with side doors and screens so that it is possible to use this vehicle in all weathers and when showers are looming. There are a full set of new military 750 Chevron tyres, including the spare, and the paintwork is of a high quality sprayed finish. This Champ is also detailed nicely and comes with pioneer tools, bridging plate, vintage number plates and external water carrier.
The interior is also a nice place to be and looks just as one would hope to find it. The rear is fitted with a storage, which could be used for valuables or overnight luggage if you were showing this vehicle. The front seats are in great order and the dash is a pleasant space.
This Champ starts on the button, and the engine is quite simply the smoothest engine we’ve heard on any vehicle – there are no ticks, knocks or noises emanating from under the engine bay… all one can hear is the raspy exhaust coming through the recently fitted stainless steel exhaust system. This Champ goes really well, having plenty of power and it also stops well with good, sharp brakes. The independent suspension, which was very forward thinking of the time, gives a very smooth driving experience… in fact, the whole driving experience is smooth, refined and very enjoyable.
We do not often get Austin Champs into stock these days – and finding one of this calibre and standard of presentation, coupled with the exceptional military history and super low owners and mileage is very uncommon. We feel that this Champ will make a fantastic purchase, pleasurable ownership experience whilst also making a sound investment for those wanting to enjoy their nest egg and perhaps even make some profit out of it down the line. Suffice to say, we absolutely love this vehicle and if we were a museum rather than a retailer, we would have loved to have kept it!
