Here we have for sale an early Land Rover® Series 2a, presented in Truck Cab Format, with Swingaway Wheel Carrier. We always like to stock something that little bit different at John Brown 4×4, giving our staff the opportunity for some freedom to create something different and striking to look at- and this one certainly fits that brief.
Externally, the bodywork is finished in Light Pastel Green, with wing-top mounted mirrors, recent bumper, vintage number plates and the truck cab roof with limestone top piece. The vehicle sits on a set of chunky “Land Rover® Wolf” style wheels with off-road tyres, ideal for those who are looking to take their Land Rover® on an adventure! We personally love the option of Truck Cab motoring – something which may will appreciate if they have dogs or cattle to transport, those who want to take their bike/ camping gear to the forest for an activity day or weekend, or those that have items in the rear like logs and coal, which you may not want to share the cabin with….. they are delightfully versatile and a truck cab rear canvas can be fitted to enclose the area upon request – meaning you can even put some benches back there and use the sliding windows to unify the cabin. Rock Sliders are fitted to the sides for extra ground clearance. Those eagle eyed amongst you will see a bonnet dog survives – this is in case the spare needs to be removed from the carrier, or could house another spare if you plan to go on a serious expedition. A towbar is fitted should towing be required – the extra power makes this a much easier task to carry out.
On the inside, there are two front techno style high back seats, with a central cubby box for keeping items out of sight. Deluxe matting is fitted to the footwells, and a heater with demist is fitted, which is welcome for the winter months. Uprated individual wipers have been fitted for better performance over standard. We now get onto what is so great about a Truck Cab – with the smaller cabin, it is not only warmer in the winter, but there is less noise & reverberation around the cabin too. The front also locks, which makes it more secure than those with a canvas. The rear has a load mat to the floor as photographed….. and other than this, it is ready to store people/ things. It is also possible to get a “tonneau cover” should you want to cover the rear & keep it dry – or we have even seen ones fitted using gas struts for the ultimate storage solution! A full soft top conversion can be carried out on request should you want this instead of the truck cab format.
Out on the road is where this Series 2a really shines though – the TDI power means it really shifts, and the large wheels and tyres maximise this by increasing the gearing – this also increases the fuel economy to twice as much than standard & gives much increased reliability. It really has a “go anywhere” feel and would be ideal for those looking to use their Land Rover® for off-roading, or on a farm, or just for a good time. There is a side exit straight-through twin exhaust to give as much power as possible and make this really feel like the tarmac (& mud) shredder it is! Split Wheel Rims mean that you can change a tyre by the side of the road with minimal tools.
In summary, if you are looking for a Land Rover® which stands out from the crowd, can go anywhere, and can carry just about anything – from a bike, to the inevitable Ikea furniture, the dogs, gravel, wood, hay and everything else – this could be for you. With the added bonus of no road tax to pay, no MOT test to worry about and Classic Insurance to keep the costs right down – this gives an opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. This may look like an original Series, but the upgrades have made it much, much more usable for just about any task one can think of.
