The go-karts made by the company are also very well known, as it was one of the first manufacturers of karts in Italy. Mostly powered by the tried-and-tested 125 engine, they were made with a tubular chassis in rather elegant shapes.
The Bergamo-based company, which had managed to employ as many as 1, 500 people, was involved in a financial collapse in 1960, from which it was unable to recover and thus ended its production.
Rumi's respectable palmares also included important victories in various speed and endurance championships.
In 1954 the Super Sport Competizione 'Gobbetto' won the Italian Speed Championship.
At the end of the 1950s, in the 125 and 175 cc Scooter class, it triumphed twice in the legendary Bol d'Or, a gruelling 24-hour endurance race held in France.
Finally, in 1988 and 1989, the Rumi Racing Team, with Californian rider Fred Merkel, riding a Honda RC30 won the Superbike World Championship.
