Description
History:
The VW Beetle was the most built automobile in the world before the VW Golf surpassed the production figure of 21. 5 million in June 2002.
The German name «Käfer» originated from the translated "Beetle", as the New York Times titled it on 3 July 1938. It was soon to populate the German autobahns like thousands and thousands of Beetles. The vehicle designed by engineer Ferdinand Porsche was built in Germany from 1938 to 1978, after that only in Brazil and Mexico.
The bodywork company Karmann was commissioned to build the VW Beetle Cabriolet until 1980. Of the 15. 8 million units produced in Germany, just 330, 281 convertibles were built. The 1300 from the 1303 series is the most produced model of the Beetle Convertible. The reliable 1. 3l engine is faithful and durable, and many of these classics are still on the road today.
Body and paintwork:
A lady from Lausanne had her convertible repainted and extensively restored in its blue metallic in 2007. Therefore, the colour still appears in a very beautiful shine today. In some places, the 15 years since the restoration are visible, but without any significant damage to the paint.
The soft top was also renewed in 2007, is still beautiful and has been freshly checked for leaks.
Interior:
The interior was completely renewed in 2019 and you feel like you are in a new Beetle. The overall feel is high quality, with only some plastic covers on the seats showing signs of age.
Engine and mechanics:
Mechanically, a VW Beetle is such and such a trouble-free car. Extensive repair work was carried out at Goodtimer in 2019. A major technical inspection is part of the programme for the renewed MFK inspection when the vehicle is purchased.
Chassis:
The chassis is robust and the wide tyres not only look good, they also make themselves positively felt when driving faster. The slight "floaty" feeling that can exist with a Beetle has given way here to a rich and secure road holding. The chassis, which has been completely conserved in 2019, and the entire underbody are immaculate.
Driving experience:
A Beetle Convertible is a joy to drive, even on long journeys. The interior, which looks as good as new, makes you forget that you are sitting in a car that is almost 50 years old. Another great thing about a Beetle Convertible is that you can drive open almost without draughts. The side windows and the soft top protect the passengers excellently from strong winds, even at motorway speeds.
Recommendation:
If you want to experience the charm of a classic car and the feeling of driving a convertible for the whole family, this 5-seater VW Beetle is a wonderful introduction to the world of classic cars.
