The Honda SS50 is a 50 cc motorcycle manufactured by the Honda Motor Company.
I would have been in primary school when the first four speed SS50’s arrived on the scene. Honda had updated its SS50E originally from 1967 to gain some traction in ‘sixteener’ moped revolution that swept the nation in the early 70’s.
It became the reluctant choice of parents who realised they weren’t going to win the moped v cycling/ bus/ lift or walk argument but also considered keeping their neighbours as friends a priority.
Yes, the two-stroke brigade were considered far too noisy and rapid; thus, if the parents finally relented, it was only after accepting the promises the SS offered that is reliability with less performance plus reduced decibels when their young off-spring arrived home at midnight.
Sure, I had a Raleigh Chopper but talk of mopeds was banned in our house and so was staying out after midnight. It would be another two decades before motorised freedom visited my abode; maybe that is why five decades later the chance to own an early SS50 has become important. A couple of hundred quid wasn’t small change in 1970s either, the average wage was bugger all, but Honda priced the SS just under the other (more popular) peds of the time.
Things have changed now - our generation are all grown up, but finding an SS50 in the first place would test anyone's patience; those that remain are either restored and rather pricey … or rotten and will one day be restored and become even more pricey.

Worth noting that this is a factory original bike in mint condition for its age - its never been restored.
