This rare Alpina B6 was imported from Germany into Sweden in 2006 by John Gustafsson from Västerås, who sold it on to Tomas Hall from Stockholm in 2009. Hall, a renowned car restorer, undertook a complete restoration of the car from 2009-2011. Once it was finished, he sold the car in 2012 to its current owner, who has used it occasionally. This Alpina, a very rare model, still has its original engine and comes with a large history file, its Alpina certificate and numerous documents and invoices charting its history in Germany and restoration in Sweden. It is a magnificent example.
The B6 3. 5 was one of the first Alpina touring cars to be sold by the manufacturer from Buchloe, BMW's official tuner. The cars it went on to build were less radical than BMW's M models and did not sacrifice comfort on the altar of outright power. They remained extremely quick cars, the improvements made to them hidden beneath their understated lines. This was the case for the Alpina B6 3. 5, which was based on the BMW 323i and used its body, but was fitted with a 6-cylinder 3. 5-litre engine derived from that in the 635 CSi. This developed 260 bhp and enabled the B6 to accelerate from 0-100 kph in 6. 4 sec and reach a top speed of 250 kph.
The car we are offering for sale is presented in Alpina's traditional style, with the firm's elegant coachlines running around the body and its distinctively striped seats inside. It is faster and more flexible than the more extreme BMW M3 and, according to its owner, "It holds the road like a kart and delivers its power with a turbine-like whoosh". More expensive in its day than a Porsche 944 Turbo, this exclusive car is especially rare, as it is believed that only 92 examples of this uncatalyzed version were built. It is exceptional to see one of them come onto the market: this B6 constitutes an opportunity which should not disappoint its new owner when he gets behind the wheel.
