Designed at the behest of US Porsche Importer, Max Hoffman, the 356 Speedster was released as a lower-cost, more track-oriented variant of the 356. With a choice of several engines with outputs ranging from 60hp to 100hp, a shorter windscreen, removable windows, and other distinctive elements, Speedsters have become one of the most iconic shapes in Porsche's history. As such, values for original Speedsters are some of the highest of any Porsche of the period.
Unsurprisingly, their legendary status and relatively simple shape have brought about a significant number of replicas throughout the years. Some of the absolute best are made by Beck, who utilize a special tube frame, modern suspension/ brake components, and performance-tuned VW Flat-4 motors to accurately recreate the handling so beloved of the originals, but offer better performance.
