In 1979, Moto Guzzi set its sights on introducing the new Spada NT to the UK. However, the sole importers in the country, Coburn & Hughes, found themselves with a surplus of the Spada 11 model. In a creative move to shift some units, they decided to enhance the final 100 units by adorning them in a striking livery of pinstriped red and white. These special editions also received upgrades such as an enhanced saddle and color-matched panniers. The outcome was an immediate attention-grabber, and quite possibly the rarest Moto Guzzi product ever produced.
On offer is a 1980 Moto Guzzi Spada Royale, it has had only two recorded previous owners from new. The vendor has known this Moto Guzzi since it was new in 1980. It was eventually left for 25 years and the current owner tried his hardest to buy it for 20 years without success and the same old story, he was going to get it back on the road. Eventually, the owner decided to sell it to the current vendor and he has since restored it to the current condition. The whole machine was stripped and rebuilt. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt by the legendary Nigel Billingsley, arguably the best Moto Guzzi specialist in the UK. The vendor has been interested in the Spada Royale since they first came out and has been keeping records of where machines are and how many are left. He only knows of 5 examples to this day. The Spada is running very well and is ready for its new owner for the rest of the summer months. There are some hand-written notes about the machine and exactly what has been done. It comes with a current V5C.
