Lot 235
Property of a deceased's estate
1970 BSA 250cc Starfire
Registration no. SEE 149H
Chassis no.

BSA revamped its unitary construction singles range for 1967, the new B25 Starfire and C25 Barracuda models retaining the same basic engine layout as the outgoing C15 but with a stronger Victor-type crankcase assembly and new 'square-fin' alloy cylinder barrel. Inside, there was a stronger one-piece forged crankshaft and, somewhat unusually for a single, a split shell-type big-end bearing.

First registered on 21st April 1970, this nicely restored Starfire currently displays a total of 14, 979 miles on the odometer. When advertised by the previous owner, this Starfire was described as being totally refurbished with many new parts: stainless steel wheel rims and spokes, new tyres, powder coated frame, and resprayed tank. A quantity of invoices is on file, as well as the purchase invoice for £4, 000, together with a detailed hand-written breakdown of works completed by previous owner Mr Laurence Gray of Alford, Lincolnshire.

It should be noted that the left-side crankcase half has been replaced and is unnumbered (the original left-side crankcase numbered 'CD07929 B25S' is offered with the machine). 'SEE 149H' is offered with a replacement parts list; photocopied workshop manual; the aforementioned invoices; and a V5C document stating four previous keepers. No numberplate is fitted currently. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over with compression). Two keys present.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams website for all pertinent auction information.
