THE LAMBORGHINI URUS
While it seems like every manufacturer has jumped on the SUV bandwagon in the last decade, Lamborghini's SUV roots date back to the early 1980s with the LM002 off-roader a rejected military vehicle project that morphed into an insane V12 powered 4x4 that found favor among Middle Eastern oil barons and Hollywood action stars alike. But it took until 2012 for Lamborghini to reveal a follow up, in the form of the Estoque concept, which would become the production Urus. Now under the umbrella of the VW-Audi Group, Lamborghini had access to a proven platform and a considerably larger budget for which to develop their unique take on the modern 'Super SUV.'
The new Urus is based on the undeniably successful underpinnings shared by the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, VW Touareg, and Bentely Bentayga. But it is much more than a badge-engineered clone. The Lamborghini is extensively redesigned to preserve the spirit of the legendary Italian supercars but in the guise of a four-door all-road SUV. Power comes from a revised version of the twin-turbo V8 used by Audi, tuned to 640bhp, and the chassis has adjustable air suspension, multiple drive modes for differing conditions, and features the largest carbon ceramic brakes ever fitted to a production vehicle at 440mm in front! The high-tech chassis is wrapped in a distinctly angular body that is unmistakably a Lamborghini, so the Urus sacrifices none of its 'wow factor' despite being able to haul four people and their gear in cosseting comfort.
THE CAR OFFERED
Offered from The Orange Collection is this 2023 Urus Performante, finished in the spacy color combo of Arancio Borealis over Nero Cosmus upholstery. It is a highly optioned example that has covered just 2, 060 miles at the time of cataloguing. As its name implies, the Performante is the driver's choice of the Urus lineup, boasting umerous refinements to make it the most focused and fastest of the range.
Firstly, the wick is turned up on the Twin-Turbo 4-liter V8 engine to make 657bhp. The suspension gets a full work-over, ditching the pneumatic springs for fixed height coils, which are lighter, less complex, and more predictable at the limit. In addition, the AWD system does away with off-road modes, and is tuned for a rear-drive bias, allowing for a more tail-happy attitude, and relying on the fonts just to pull out of corners. Brembo calipers clamp the same massive carbon ceramic brakes, ensuring the 'woah' keeps up with the 'go.'
This spectacular Urus features nearly $61, 000 in options and extras, including special paint, glossy black carbon roof and bonnet, Bicolore Sportivo color scheme, 23-inch wheels, orange calipers, electric seats, sport steering wheel, and much more. The accompanying CARFAX report is clean, showing it was ceramic treated by Ceramic Pro in 2023. The vendor also reports it has been updated with a lightweight titanium Akrapovic exhaust, which allows the Urus to sound as tough as it looks.
There is little denying the astonishing capabilities of the Urus as a mile-devouring Grand Tourer. This example, with its litany of desirable options, and appropriately in-your-face looks and stonking performance, demonstrates that even one of the most celebrated supercar manufacturers in Italy can build an SUV worthy of the storied Raging Bull badge.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
