The Morris Minor was launched at Earl’s Court on 27th October 1948. The first MM cars, produced until 1953 were powered by the 918cc side-valve engine, a slightly upgraded version of the one fitted to the Morris 8. These early cars are now quite rare.
MGP351 is a 1951 Minor two door saloon. The V5 states manufactured 1950 but it is actually a 1951 model.
After a long period in storage it was restored around ten years ago including a re-paint with various new panels, an engine overhaul, brake overhaul and various other new parts including five new Bridgestone radial tyres a rebuilt carburettor and re-cored radiator.
As you can see from the photos, it presents very well. Other than various minor flaws close up, the paint is good as are the body and underside and the floors under the carpets. The interior is also in good if not perfect condition. The original trafficators are fully working.
On the road, this MM drives well with a smooth engine with strong oil pressure and no crunches from the gearbox. Driving a side-valve Minor takes a little practice but once mastered they are easily capable of keeping up with traffic and a fairly tall top gear allows them to cruise at reasonable speed.
We have just carried some re-commissioning including engine and gearbox oil change, new plugs and a long list of small cosmetic and mechanical jobs and a few test miles.
This Minor is very good rather than perfect but if you are looking for an early car it's superb value and benefits from substantial expenditure and still has its original (now non-transferable) registration number.
