Built in Paris at the dawn of motoring, this La Française is extremely rare with only three examples believed to remain
The firm was founded in 1890 by two associates, one of whom sold his shared to investor John-Varnum Hammond
Of the believed three remaining tricycles, two are fitted with the much more common De Dion-Bouton engine, whilst this one is powered by the rarer 'France' single-cylinder (bore and stroke unknown)
The last one to come up for sale was at an asking price of £69, 000 (€77, 500) in 2023 and joined a private Collection, whilst the other one is displayed at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris
Purchased from the well known veteran vehicle collectors, the Ward Brothers, around three years ago by our vendor, a UK-based collector and well known member of the Veteran Car Club
