L'atelier des 1000 is pleased to offer for sale this splendid Mercedes 500 SEC C126 coupé in an elegant and racy configuration with this AMG kit finished in Astral Silver to match the blue leather interior and burr walnut woodwork. The 500SEC is no more and no less than the coupé version of the S-Class W126, whose luxury and refinement were at the height of the era.
At nearly 350k€ Francs new in its basic version this SEC was not cheap at the time, more expensive than a 911 it fully illustrated Mercedes know-how in the Eigthies! Nearly 40 years later it is still going strong. Once it had passed through the hands of the AMG tuner at a time when they were still independent, the classy coupe changed tack for a sportier look. Our example was registered on 29/ 03/ 1985 and was delivered to Switzerland by the Emil Frey dealership in Geneva before being imported into France in 2003 when it had clocked up 90, 000km.
It has now clocked up 152, 000 km. Having already passed through our hands less than two years ago, we are delighted to have this car back at the Atelier des 1000 and to be able to offer it to you for sale once again. An extensive file traces the car's history from the outset, confirming its real mileage and its period AMG preparation. The original manual and booklet are also available. Last year the vehicle benefited from almost €6, 000 of work, including servicing the gearbox and rebuilding the ignition. Mechanically, the vehicle handles well, the engine starts easily and runs perfectly. The automatic gearbox does not transmit any jerks or slippage. This version has a high-compression engine with specific camshafts for a power output of 265hp.
The vehicle is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system by Simon's, which gives it a liberated sound in perfect harmony with the AMG pack. The suspension is in good condition, and AMG fitted lowered suspensions to improve roadholding and the vehicle's sporty handling.
The running gear is precise, the steering has no abnormal play and the braking is perfectly effective. The paintwork is in very good condition, with a bright varnish. The original 16' Penta wheels are in excellent condition and fitted with new tyres.
The blue leather interior is in very good condition, with a slight patina that gives it its authenticity and that we particularly like. The AMG 4-spoke steering wheel is in good condition and its condition is consistent with the rest of the upholstery. A Blaupunkt neo-retro car radio has been fitted, in 80s style but with Bluetooth. In view of the condition, configuration, documented history and rarity of the model, we are asking €29, 990.
