THE RENAULT 4CV "JOLLY"
In 1946, immediately following WWII, the economically-challenged French public was offered a new mode of transport when Renault launched its diminutive, but irrepressibly charming, 4CV 'Jolly' runabout. With its rear-mounted 760cc four-cylinder engine and three speed transmission it produced just 19 horsepower (4CV refers to the tax horsepower, not the actual engine output). What it may have lacked in power and speed, it more than made up for in appeal and efficiency. Averaging 50mpg with a top speed of 59mph, the Jolly became supremely popular, and remained in production through 1961 in its various configurations. By that time, displacement was adjusted to 747cc with increased top speed of 66mph and 28hp, thanks to higher compression.
THE CAR OFFERED
This lovely example was built in the final year of production, 1961. It presents in mint green with white accents and a matching white fringed surrey for protection from the sun. The wicker bench seat for two (or more) in the rear is accessed through the cut away front-entry, with two individual wicker seats in the front. The wheels are white with coordinating mint green central hubs, and the steering wheel is white to match the hood and rear deck. Chrome highlights adorn the Jolly on all sides.
